What is an Endowment?

An endowment is a donation of money or property made to a nonprofit organization, with the goal of generating investment income for a specific purpose. The total assets, known as the principal or corpus, are intended to remain intact, while the investment returns and interest income are utilized to fund operations or programs aligned with the donor's intentions. This structure ensures the long-term sustainability of the nonprofit's initiatives while preserving the initial contribution.
